Kathmandu, Nov. 8: A remarkable spell from Pakistani spinner Jahandad Khan turned the Nepal Premier League (NPL) contest on its head as Kathmandu Gorkhas stunned league leaders Lumbini Lions by 36 runs at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground on Saturday. After a promising start with the bat, Gorkhas looked set for a much bigger total before a late collapse saw them finish at 160/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
However, Jahandad's sensational bowling in the powerplay ensured that the total was more than enough to secure a memorable victory. Gorkhas began confidently, with David Warner and Sahil Patel putting together a formidable 104-run opening partnership. Warner brought his experience to the fore, scoring 66 off 50 balls, including nine fours and a six, while Patel contributed 38 off 36 deliveries.
The pair had taken Gorkhas to 78 by the end of nine overs, crossing the 100-run mark in the 12th over. Sher Malla finally gave Lions some relief by dismissing Patel, before returning to remove Warner and trigger a dramatic turnaround.
