Mumbai The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) demolished 27 commercial structures on a plot reserved for a BEST bus station in Borivali East, a day after the Supreme Court ordered the withholding of Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide’s salary over delays in clearing the encroachments. The 3,400-square-metre plot on Swami Vivekanand Road had been reserved for a bus station operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking. The demolition drive, conducted by the BMC’s R/Central ward, involved 70 workers and staff members, two JCB machines and four dumpers.
Police personnel were deployed during the operation. On Tuesday (November 3, 2026), a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana ordered that Ms. Bhide’s salary and that of her personal staff be withheld over non-compliance with earlier directions to clear the land.
However, continued delays prompted further court directions in November 2025 and July 2026.
