‘Shared Dreams Woven by Struggle’, documenting struggles of 13 women leaders launched

Titled Shared Dreams Woven by Struggle , the book brings together personal stories of women who challenged discrimination, organised communities and fought for rights, dignity and social justice. The book features the story of Umadevi Badi and her struggle for land, rights and dignity as part of the Badi community’s rights movement. It also documents the journey of Muskan Khatun, an acid attack survivor who has continued her struggle for justice and dignity.

Some of the stories focus on the Sino Bahishkar Movement, which has gradually faded from public memory. The experiences of Mahari Devi, Bhola Devi and Chandeshwori Sada, who were involved in the movement, document women’s efforts to challenge caste-based discrimination and demand equality and dignity. Speaking at the launch, Sunita Dangol, acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, said documenting women’s experiences was an important part of the struggle for women’s rights. She said recording such histories would help establish women’s own narratives in a society where their struggles and voices are often questioned.
