Gadi Eisenkot receives mandate to form government

Israel's opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot has officially been tasked with forming the country's next government, following a formal announcement by President Isaac Herzog. He now has up to six weeks to negotiate with potential coalition partners and secure a parliamentary majority.

While an alliance with Arab Israeli parties appears to be the easiest option mathematically, it remains politically sensitive. Eisenkot must now navigate difficult negotiations to build a coalition capable of replacing Benjamin Netanyahu.
