KARAIKUDI An activist Subaja, 34, who is a differently-abled person, was apparently assaulted by an unidentified woman after the activist submitted a petition about a rice smuggling incident in Sivaganga district. As the video went viral in the social media, the police booked a case and commenced a probe, officials said.
It is said that a few days ago, Subaja had submitted a petition to the District Collector stating that rice intended for distribution in ration shop was being smuggled in a private car. She had given details of the point of origin and place where it was stocked etc.
Under such circumstances, the video, in support of the activist, wondered whether the issue was being leaked to the smugglers, which was the reason for the assault on Ms Subaja and demanded the officials to arrest the leaks about the whistle-blowers in future.
