A long-running dispute over the ownership of a home in Houston has returned to court after a Texas appeals court reopened the case. The ruling brings years of ownership claims, earlier foreclosures, and reverse mortgage agreements back into the legal process. The Fourteenth Court of Appeals of Texas reviewed the case under docket number 14-25-00470-CV.
The court found that the competing claims over the property could not be settled through a summary judgment because important facts remained unclear. It overturned the lower court's decision that had ended the dispute and sent the case back for further legal proceedings. At the center of the case is a disagreement over who legally owns the home.
A couple lost the property through foreclosure in 2001 but later took out a reverse mortgage against the same home in 2011.
