Coimbatore The Periyar Arivulagam in Coimbatore on Saturday took down books published by Agal Vilakku Pathipagam, which came under scrutiny following allegations of irregularities in procurement and questions about their content and authorship. Sources said the books were removed as visitors had been approaching the library to read them after the controversy came to light.
On Friday, writer Perumal Murugan flagged inaccuracies and questionable authorship of certain titles at Periyar Arivulagam. He claimed the publisher had supplied around 1,800 titles to the library, priced much higher than other Tamil books.
The issue has triggered a political row in the State since, with the DMK and ruling TVK charging each other with wrongdoing and corruption.
