MADURAI The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the State government to take necessary steps to construct a new Government Hospital in Ilayangudi in Sivaganga district. The court was hearing the public interest litigation petition filed by P. Radhakrishnan of Ilayangudi in Sivaganga district.
He sought a direction to the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps to construct a new Government Hospital with modern medical facilities in Ilayangudi. He said the existing Government Hospital at Ilayangudi lacked adequate infrastructure, medical equipment and inpatient facilities to cater to the medical needs of the people of Ilayangudi taluk and the surrounding villages. The District Collector had allotted 2.42.80 hectares of land for the construction of a new Government Hospital and a proposal for Rs.74 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme had also been submitted.
However, no further steps had been taken to implement the project, he said.
