Court upholds sale of divorced Arkansas woman's property share after her bankruptcy filing.

A federal appeals court has upheld the sale of a divorced woman's half-share in a property in Arkansas. The court rejected a legal challenge from her former husband, who tried to stop the sale after she filed for bankruptcy. The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled on 4 November 2026 to uphold an earlier decision dismissing an appeal by Logan Riffenburg.

The ruling allows the Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee to complete the sale of the property share to Blue Sun Capital LLC, ending a legal dispute between the former couple that lasted several years. According to court documents published by Justia, the dispute began in August 2021, when Riffenburg and his then-wife, Vanessa Roper, jointly bought a property in Mountain View, Arkansas. The couple divorced less than a year later.

As part of the divorce, each received an equal half-share of the property.Bankruptcy filing triggers estate saleAfter the divorce, Roper remarried and later filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection with her new husband, Billy Joe Roper Jr, in March 2023.
