UJMxtTyg Kukur Tihar: Nepal honours dogs with flower garlands to celebrate loyalty Dogs across Nepal were honoured during a ceremony held in Kathmandu as part of the Hindu festival known as Kukur Tihar, which highlights the loyalty and special bond between humans and dogs. Personnel from the Armed Police Force placed flower petals and bright orange garlands around the necks of dogs and staged a joint performance during the ceremony.
The dog festival takes place on the second day of a five-day festival dedicated to animals associated with Yamaraj, the god of death and justice. Across the country, people celebrate by honouring both pet and stray dogs, with the festive period considering it a sin to act disrespectfully toward dogs and other honoured animals.
