Humla, November 6 A woman who had been bedridden with labour pains has been rescued five days later. Dikki Sangmu Lama, 33, of Namkha Rural Municipality-3 in Humla, was airlifted by a Nepal Army helicopter on Friday morning and sent to the Provincial Hospital in Surkhet, said Sarita Bohara, an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) at District Hospital Humla. Bohara said the rescue came after efforts with various agencies to save the lives of the mother and the baby.
Lama could not be treated at the district hospital because of a shortage of blood. She was therefore referred outside the district, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Khadka of the District Police Office, Humla. The cost of the Nepal Army helicopter is being borne by the President Women Rescue Programme of the federal Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens.
