A Pennsylvania family’s love for Halloween has turned an ordinary residential yard into an elaborate haunted attraction, complete with towering monsters, battling aliens and an immersive cornfield experience. According to a report by Berks Weekly, the display in Exeter Township has evolved over five years from a modest graveyard into a themed Halloween experience called Rotten Roots.
The attraction is also listed on HauntMap, a directory of Halloween displays that helps visitors discover decorated homes and local haunts. The attraction is the work of Garrick Heim and his family, who have steadily expanded their Halloween decorations to create an experience visitors can walk through rather than simply admire from the roadside.
At the centre of the display is a fictional farm where witches command an army of spiders to protect their cornfield from invading aliens. The storyline, developed by Heim’s wife, gives the decorations a connected theme, with animatronic characters arranged across the property to bring the imaginary battle to life.
