Migrant boat sinks off Senegal, 21 killed: authorities

A boat carrying migrants sank off northwestern Senegal killing at least 21 people in the latest tragedy along the dangerous Atlantic Ocean route from Africa to Europe, authorities said on Sunday (November 8, 2026). The Senegalese Interior Ministry said in a statement that the death toll from the sinking, which occurred on Saturday (November 7, 2026), was "provisional" and that one person had been rescued in addition to the 21 bodies recovered.
