TIRUCHI With just three days left for Deepavali, firecracker sales in Tiruchi have begun picking up, with new varieties hitting the market. Temporary stalls and retail outlets across the city have started recording increased footfall, with families drawn by available varieties. Traders expect sales to pick up over the next few days, especially as the festival approaches.
Apart from conventional crackers, retailers have stocked a range of new varieties to attract customers. Ring cap missile guns, cylinder bombs, hand shots, helicopter crackers, airguns, shooters, pink and violet fountains, hand peacock crackers, hammer and mushroom flower pots, cupcake flower pots, and musical shots are among the new varieties available this year. Traditional favourites such as flower pots, chakras, sparkles, and rockets continue to draw customers.
“Eco-friendly and low-noise varieties are attracting attention as some consumers look for alternatives that produce less noise and smoke during the celebrations,” said Gnanavel, a trader at Palakarai.
