Shoppers throng markets in Dindigul on Deepavali eve

DINDIGUL Despite light rain on Saturday evening, shoppers thronged markets and shops in Dindigul for last minute Deepavali purchases. All the major business centres across the city were filled with people since morning. Around 300 temporary vendors and hawkers had set up roadside stalls near the Clock Tower. The shops saw brisk sales throughout the day.

Dindigul Corporation had granted permission for setting up roadside shops ahead of Deepavali. Due to high demand, prices of flowers rose sharply in Dindigul on the festive eve. Jasmine was selling at ₹2,000 per kg. Similarly, Kanakambaram (firecracker flower) was selling at ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 per kg.

The prices of the other flowers were also priced high at the Anna Flower Market. Flowers were brought to the market from villages surrounding Dindigul, including Vellodu, Kalikkampatti, Sembatti. The public eagerly bought the flowers and some even made bulk purchases for the Deepavali rituals. Farmers and traders expressed their happiness over the flowers fetching good prices and the brisk sales.
